Perception as a way of knowledge

In Monday's class we did a lesson about ways of knowing where we learned there are 4 ways of knowing through perception; Emotion, reason, sense perception and language, but specifically sense of perception. We as humans trust our own instinct , because all humans agree when it comes to sensory information and because these are our direct contact with the world.

Then as the class went on we were able to understand the context as the teacher showed us images that illustrated shapes or portraits like the one of Picasso.

Then we saw a video about some 'super humans' who could see odors and sounds, there 'super humans' are called synesthetes and they suffer from a weird neurological problem called synesthesia which consists of a confusion of the senses.

I found the lecture really interesting, as it made me think further than i have ever thought before

I believe it was an amazing class and it made me really excited about TOK in the future. It enriched my knowledge.

  1. Sergio, this is a good first blog entry, but I need to see you connecting a bit more with what we are looking at, and not merely recounting what we learnt. Be careful with spellings too! I suggest you use a word processor so that it highlights errors for you, and you can learn by using the spell check.

I am really pleased you like TOK so much! HOORAY!

Note: I am not sure Miss Briggs used the word "disease" to talk about the syntesthetes.
